Goodbye Site Meter

My site was really slow loading until I found out it was Site Meter slowing it down. Site Meter lets me know in real time how many people visit my site and how they got here. Sure I'd like to know how many people visit my site, reflecting how good a job I'm doing, but stats do not equate to quality. I write because I want to contribute my knowledge and experience to the general public. Gaining popularity or making money from this blog is not my goal. If I divide the tiny ad revenue from this blog by the hours I spent researching and writing it, it's probably a few pennies per hour. I yanked Site Meter. Now my site loads much faster.

    Why don't you use Google Analytics? You only dumb a tracking ID into the code of your pages and Google tracks all the information you could possibly need in the background – without impairing your performance.

    Put your site meter down on the lower part of your sidebar since your site most likely loads from left to right. That way you shouldn't notice it slowing down your loading time.

    hmmm. I haven't noticed a problem with Sitemeter on my site. I really like Sitemeter in general, but I may have to check out Google Analytics on Kirsten's suggestion.
