"I understand your points, but I bought the first book as a complete novice and its point blank, repetitive style knocked the basic principles of index investing into my head. Since that book, I’ve gone on to read more in-depth writings from Bernstein, Bogle, and others, along with great sites like this. His books are not for the seasoned investor – they are for the noob who wants to understand the very basic principles, as a prerequisite course before moving on to higher learning."

Looks like Mr. Solin did stumble upon this blog post...

If this book was for "noobs", why is "Smartest" in the title?

Why not "A Noob's 401(k) Book"? It's all marketing.

What is with all these authors / publishers? Can't they think of a better book title?

The template is overused:

"The Greatest/Only/Smartest/(Whatever) Book About (Fill In The Blank) You Will Ever Need/Read".
