I am just getting to the age where I need to get a credit card and I have been looking around. This post has definitely piqued my interest. I mostly just want a credit card to start building some credit but bonuses never hurt anyone :). I happened to read an article that explained how you can live without a credit card. I found this to be good advice but I think I am responsible enough to handle having a credit card. A credit card like the one described above seems like it is what I am looking for.

Thanks for this post.. I applied for this card because I read your post. I had heard about the SPG Amex card but wanted to wait until they had a good promo to apply.

I didnt get immediate approval for some reason, but was approved by the next day with no additional input on my part. Not sure if I will keep the card once it has an annual fee. I get paid to use my Schwab visa card, so why would pay to use this one? I guess it would matter how much I used the points. $3000 via Schwab pays me $60, spending $3000 via SPG Amex gives me enough points for a $100 room for a night.. I would probably rather have the cash and stay at a less expensive hotel.
