I got a free Chromecast from American Express, Staples, and Lowe’s a few weeks ago. American Express and its merchant partners are releasing more statement credit offers for the holiday shopping season. Every time I log in to my account online, I see some new offers under the “Offers For You” tab.
Right now I see these offers among many others (not everyone will see the same offers):
- Amazon.com: $25 back after spending $75
- BP: $5 back after spending $25 (multi-use)
- Chevron: $5 back after spending $40
- ExxonMobil: $5 back after spending $30
- Costco.com: $15 back after spending $115
- Lowe’s: $10 back after spending $50
- Kohl’s: $10 back after spending $50
- Macys.com: $10 back after spending $50
- Toys R Us: $5 back after spending $25
- Old Navy: $5 back after spending $20
- Zappos: $30 back after spending $150
- 1-800 Contacts: $30 back after spending $150
I like these statement credit offers because they are super-easy to use. Once you save them to the card, you will automatically get them when your purchase meets the qualification. You don’t have to remember any coupon codes or present anything when you make a purchase. They are also on top of any other sale, promo codes, or price matches.
The gas ones are no-brainers to get because chances are you will need gas anyway. Amazon.com sells Amazon gift cards with email delivery or free shipping. Costco.com sells Costco cash cards with free shipping. Lowe’s sells gift cards in its stores for Lowe’s itself and many other places.

I took advantage of several of these offers as well. Haven’t used Costco because I am not a Costco member. Can one use Costco Cash Card at a Costco store without being a member?
Harry says
You have to be a member in order to buy Costco Cash Card on costco.com. You don’t have to be a member to use it.

Does it work for Fidelity/FIA AMEX? I don’t see any of these offers or the “Offers for You” tab.
Harry says
Offers For You tab is only on americanexpress.com. Fidelity AmEx isn’t issued or serviced by American Express. Some of these offers have Twitter sync hash tags. See SlickDeals thread and wiki.

hi, Harry:
sorry to post unrelated topic but I don’t know how.
I hope that you write an update of HSA now that your Alliant CU’s interest rate offer down to 0.65% and who knows it won’t keep down to near zero?
thanks
Michael says
Sadly, that BP offer is only good for purchases at the pump. Otherwise, you could find a BP that sells third-party gift cards in their convenience store and churn $25 gift cards for $20.
(Though I wonder how they enforce this? Are pay-at-the-pump transactions coded differently?)
Harry says
They are coded differently on the terminals. Outside at the pump it’s automated fuel dispenser. Inside it’s convenience store.

Anyone knows if buying $100 + $25 worth of Costco Cash Cards from Costco.com would work?
Harry says
It looks like it will work. I got the “thank you for using the registered card” email from AmEx as soon as I placed the order. The credit hasn’t posted yet.
indexfundfan says
Thanks. I placed the order and received the email within 10 minutes or so. 🙂
