I just came back from the 2020 Physician Wellness and Financial Literacy Conference in Las Vegas. The coronavirus pandemic and the huge swings in the stock market made this conference extra memorable. While I was sitting in the audience, the stock market had the fourth largest one-day drop in percentage terms in history. The largest drop was Black Monday in 1987 and the other two larger drops happened during the Great Depression in 1929!
On the day I came back, CDC sent out new guidelines, which asked organizers to cancel or postpone in-person events that consist of 50 people or more throughout the United States in the next eight weeks. MGM, which operates several large casinos and hotels in Las Vegas announced it’s suspending operations at all those casinos and hotels for two weeks. The one we had the conference in is owned by Caesar’s, which may follow suit shortly. Ours was probably the last conference before everything shuts down.
This conference was my first appearance at a large event. Besides a live audience, many also watched online. I participated in a panel session and I gave a talk near the end. Dr. Dahle, who organized the conference, released this interview of me on his White Coat Investor podcast. It was also my first appearance anywhere in audio.
At the conference someone told me it was one of the best White Coat Investor podcast episodes. I couldn’t believe it, because the podcast featured many great guests. If you are a new subscriber and you’d like to know more about me, please listen to the podcast.
